Baw Baw Skills Centre in Warragul hosted an orientation day recently for students beginning VCE Vocational Major studies in 2024.
Students from across Baw Baw and the Latrobe Valley were given an introduction to some of the activities and areas they will be studying as part of Certificate II qualifications they will ultimately be awarded with under the scheme.
The VCE Vocational Major is aimed at students who think they would like to go into a trade rather than go down the university path. The ultimate aim of the scheme is for students to find an apprenticeship or traineeship in their chosen trade.
Students embarking in certificate II studies in the fields of agricultural studies, automotive, carpentry, electrical, animal care, plumbing and integrated technology (e.g robotics and 3D printing) were given an introduction into their chosen industries by the staff at the Baw Baw Skills Centre.
Careers teacher at Warragul Regional College Jessica Croft said the day was designed to give the students an idea of what they can expect from the VCE Vocational Major next year.
