Drouin Primary School's junior school council has been busy with its fundraising efforts recently, enabling a donation to the West Gippsland Hospital's paediatric ward.
The junior school council organised and ran a PJ day. Their idea was to invite students to attend school dressed snuggly and warm in their pyjamas to acknowledge that some kids were sick in bed at the hospital's children's ward.
They students wanted to raise money to support the hospital, as many students had been there as patients or visitors and wanted to give back to their community.
Students brought a gold coin donation on the day and raised more than $650. This was donated to the paediatric unit to go towards a new auroscope, a piece of equipment used to check children's ears.
Students Louis, Euphie and Ivy recently attended the West Gippsland Hospital to present a cheque to the hospital's publicity officer Aurelia Schiafone.
The junior school council members organise four fundraising events each year. The fundraisers are completely student-led.
The group decides collaboratively on a cause to raise money for and design posters to advertise the event around the school and in the newsletter. On the day, they collect the money from each class, then arrange for the money to get to their chosen cause.
Ms Schiafone accepted the cheque on behalf of the hospital and presented the students with a certificate of appreciation for their efforts.
