Kicking off the school day with a good breakfast is something Drouin Secondary College students have easy access to through the school's breakfast club.
A student welfare initiative, breakfast club is supported by Drouin Rotary and Lions Clubs to provide breakfast twice a week to students who want to take advantage of the menu offerings.
On a busy morning, up to 50 students head into the school canteen where Rotary or Lions volunteers are ready to serve them toast, fruit, milk and juice.
Drouin Rotary Club was approached in late 2022 by DSC student welfare staff member Victoria McKay asking if Rotarians would like to restart the breakfast club twice a week.
Rotarian Tim Wills offered to co-ordinate volunteers and approached Drouin Lions Club to also support the program. The two clubs now volunteer alternate months throughout the year.
DSC youth worker Darren Dawson said breakfast club provided students a a nutritious, full stomach to start the school day.
He said the program also provided an opportunity for social interaction for students before school.
Mr Dawson said involving Rotary and Lion members was a great opportunity for students to engage with community members from outside the school and the interaction was really respectful.
