Ellinbank PS out in the community

Ellinbank Primary School students took their learning into the community recently.
As a member of Myli, rather than having books delivered to the school, students had the opportunity to browse the Warragul library shelves and select books of their own interest.
The older students engage in literacy circles each day, where small groups read and then discuss themes and the author's purpose of their chosen book.
Students are encouraged to select books which both interest them and will challenge their thinking about different topics.
The younger students read books every day in pairs and with an educator to improve their comprehension of what they are reading.
Each student has their own reading goals which are self-directed and monitored with an educator. This approach has seen a significant increase in the reading skills of the students.
After visiting the library it was off to the leisure centre for water safety activities and fun games in the water.
The school's physical education focus this term is to improve general fitness and the day at the pool was the first of many fitness activities this term.
The students are also having five "high impact intensity training" sessions which will support their overall health and endurance, culminating in a cross country event held last week..
By the end of the term students will have spent countless hours learning in class, and being active outside, creating a great balance to support student mental health and wellbeing.
