Chairo's three teams, supporters and staff members after again successfully completing the Energy Breakthrough competition with the energy efficient vehicles they developed,
Chairo Christian School students have again showed their skills in developing energy efficient vehicles.
Year seven and eight business and technology students, continuing a tradition started at the school 20 years ago, recently entered three vehicles in the annual 24-hour Energy Breakthrough competition at Maryborough.
Two all-electric vehicles and one hybrid pedal-electric vehicle, developed at the school by students, took part in this year's competition.
The three teams' entrants, based on a Toy Story theme, were named Woody, Aliens and Buzz Lightyear.
The event had three main elements, with the students having to demonstrate their understanding of their vehicles, run them through a number of pre-competition tests, and present to a panel of judges to explain their preparations and understanding of energy efficiency.
The aim was to complete as many laps of a course as possible over 24 hours, with the Chairo entrants able to perform with a minimum of mechanical issues.
Buzz Lightyear completed 440 laps, a total of 695 kilometres; Aliens 400 laps (632 kilometres); and, Woody 330 laps (521 kilometres).
Pit manager Tessa Martin said Energy Breakthrough was a great opportunity for the students to show their initiative, growth, teamwork and practical learning outside of the classroom.
It was great to see them work so well together and overcome challenges that arose during preparations and during the event, she commented.
