Chairo production finally hits the stage
1 min read

After a year of interruption, students excitedly took to the stage to perform “Once Upon a Mattress” at Chairo Christian School in Drouin.

Students overcame a year of on-again, off-again rehearsals to stage the middle school production.  The performance in the school’s theatre was videoed due to live audience restrictions.

“Once Upon a Mattress” was a musical re-telling of Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea”.  It told the tale of a prince looking for his princess and the interference of his mother, who doesn’t believe anyone is good enough for her son.

“We are very proud of the amazing work and perseverance of students in what has been a challenging year with so many interruptions,” production director Tessa Martin said.  “It was looking like they may never get to perform, but school resumed just in time - and everyone had remembered their lines.”

Those who watched the video of the production enjoyed the colourful show, with excellent acting and singing by talented years five to eight students and excellent costumes and sets.

In a year when many events were not possible, the production was a real highlight for the cast and crew involved.
