Bona Vista Primary Schools’ 39 students trudged through the muddy creek, dodged cow patties and avoided the curious cows on Tuesday May 20.

This was all for a good cause.

As part of their annual cross country run the students raised money for the Red Shield Appeal.

The prep to grade 6 students participated in the ‘Run for a Cause’ cross country which is held annually in the adjoining paddock to the school kindly offered by a neighbouring farmer.

It is normally held as part of their fitness program but this year they decided to also raise some funds for a local charity.

The students took off in small groups.

As they progressed around the paddock checking in at all five stations squeals of excitement could be heard all around the district.

Many of the students found it difficult to stick to the track as they crossed over the creek and found themselves knee deep in the mud.

All the students in the junior class agreed that the mud was the best part of the day.

Major Chris Waller from the Warragul Salvation Army attended the event, informing students the money raised will go towards providing much needed comfort and support to people who have found themselves experiencing hardship.

On the day co-principal Meredith Kygger thanked all the supporters of the event including parents, neighbours and the Salvation Army.

“Without their assistance this type of activity could not be held,” she said.
