Sports day with a difference

Pupils from seven of the region's small schools recently came together for their annual day of athletics, fun and laughter.
Bona Vista, Nilma, Darnum, Ellinbank, Lardner District, Ripplebrook and Buln Buln schools competed in a variety of fun events, including gumboot throwing and hay bale hurdles, at the Geoff Watt Track in Warragul.
More than 530 students and 30 staff attended.
The morning events included sprints, distance run, hurdles, long jump, tennis ball throw, discus, gumboot throw, shot put, turbojav and target throw.
This was followed by a championship race over 200m. The girls event was won by Montanna Brown (Buln Buln), with Natalie Paredes (Bona Vista) second and Elise Kerr (Darnum) third.
The boys event was won by Nathan Everton (Lardner), with Matthe Dare (Ellinbank) second and Max Chesterfield (Nilma) third.
In the afternoon there was a school competition where the schools were split into two divisions - bigger schools (Buln Buln, Danum and Nilma) and smaller schools (Bona Vista, Ellinbank, Lardner and Ripplebrook ). The children competed in school teams of six in six events for points in the obstacle race, tunnelball, bobball, egg and spoon race, potato pace and shuttle relay.
Darnum won the shield, while Bona Vista PS and Ripplebrook drew for the cup.
