More than 25 talented young performers took to the stage of West Gippsland Arts Centre last week to perform "Pinocchio" by Andie Browne and Anne Davies.
Amazing performances were delivered by Aisha Smith as 'Pinocchio" and Marrisa Demicoli as "Monkey". The pair elicited countless laughs from the audience during the show, as did a number of other enthusiastic performers.
Lucas Demicoli played "Gepetto" as was fantastic, with great characterisation - really did a great job embodying the role. Katrina McCabe and Pippa Grimshaw were also wonderful "Conscience" and "Blue Fairy".
Ronan North and Ruben Nelson as "Puppet 1" and "Puppet 2" were crowd favourites and often chimed into the performance with humorous commentary on the characters and storyline.
Amongst all the great singing and dancing, there were some wonderful comedic moments, great costumes, impressive lighting and a stunning set.
One stand-out scene took place in the whale's mouth - intense lighting and sounds made it an immersive experience, as did the set.
There was great variety in the types of songs and dances featured, and even a fun, hip-hop-inspired number.
Excellent direction from Abbey Peterson and assistant director Flynn Francis resulted in a very entertaining piece of theatre that was enjoyed by parents and children.
Each and every character came to life throughout the 60-minute show - as if popping right out of a storybook.
For the children in the audience, a highlight of the show was getting to join the characters on stage to dance.
