Wide variety of local paintings on display

The latest exhibition at the Red Tree Gallery in Jindivick features a wide variety of work created by the Warragul Art Group.
Ranging from landscapes to animal portraits, and even some paintings of popular cartoon characters, the exhibition will have about 70 pieces on display.
The Warragul Art Group has 14 regular members who come together every Monday morning at the VRI Hall in Warragul to socialise and paint in a variety of mediums.
Secretary Dawn Richmond said the group was a way of bringing people together to socialise and do something fun.
"We're not a strict painting group, we don't believe in that, we're really a social group who paint," Dawn explained.
"If for example, someone didn't feel like painting and thought "oh I won't go", (we say) come, because you can sit down, have a cup of tea and a piece of cake or a biscuit and chat and get out of the house."
Dawn said the group was a judgement-free zone and members looked forward to catching up each week.
"Our painting, I think it's improved," she said. "I don't know whether it's becoming older or wiser, or we've gotten to a stage where we're more accepting. We take it one day at a time; if you want to paint, paint, if you don't want to paint, you go and make the tea and cut the cake!"
Dawn said the Warragul Art Group members were looking forward to exhibiting their work publicly and getting "the feeling of achieving something".
"We enjoy coming over here (Red Tree Gallery) every two years," Dawn said.
"One of my friends who doesn't see my paintings might come along to the show and say "oh Dawn's got a painting in, and that's Dawn's friend Linda, she's got a few paintings in", I think that's what (is exciting), being recognised."
The Warragul Art Group exhibition will be on display at the Red Tree Gallery in Jindivick until Wednesday April 23.
The gallery is located at 420 Main Jindivick Road, Jindivick and is open every day between 10am and 4pm.
