One of the world's finest Tibetan musicians, Tenzin Choegyal, will include a show at the Neerim South Algie Hall as part of his 2023 "Be the Ocean" concert tour.
While many might know a little about the land of Tibet, experiencing the unique Tibetan culture first hand is a rare opportunity.
Playing the dranyen (a Tibetan lute) and the lingbu (a bamboo flute), Tenzin will take his audience on a musical journey that transcends cultural boundaries and reveals ancient wisdoms.
As the son of Tibetan nomads, Tenzin feels a particular affinity to the music of the Himalayan plateau and is one of a handful of artists keeping Tibet's music alive in the freedom of exile.
Best known for his extraordinary vocal ability and performance of droklu, the nomadic music of his parents, Tenzin has established himself as a favourite in the world music scene.
His concert performances bring traditional Tibetan sounds and practices into a contemporary setting, encompassing soaring nomadic melodies, sublime flute pieces, sacred poetry and playful folk tunes.
During his career of more than 25 years, Tenzin has collaborated with a cast of international creatives, including Philip Glass and Laurie Anderson. His major album, "Songs from the Bardo", a contemporary interpretation of the Tibetan Book of the Dead was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2021.
Tenzin will perform his 2023 "Be the Ocean" concert tour at the Algie Hall in Neerim South on Friday, November 10.
The performance will commence at 7:30pm. Tickets are available to purchase at https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1133476.
