"SLAP BANG KISS" at WGAC

Melbourne Theatre Company's "SLAP. BANG. KISS." will perform at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Tuesday, August 6 at 7pm.
Following a sell-out season in 2022, "SLAP. BANG. KISS." will return to the stage as part of Melbourne Theatre Company's education and families program.
Written by Dan Giovannoni, the show follows three young people whose stories kickstart a series of events none of them could have anticipated, transforming them into global symbols of revolution.
The "SLAP" storyline follows 16-year-old Immi after a video of her hitting a security officer goes viral.
"BANG" follows Sofia and her impassioned speech for the victims of a school shooting which makes international news.
"KISS" focuses on Darby and Daniel, two boys who lock lips in the carpark of a small town Woolies in an attempt to set the world record for the longest kiss. But, when their stories go viral and the whole world is watching, what will they do next?
"SLAP. BANG. KISS." explores themes of hope, identity and activism.
Giovannoni said the play was an opportunity for young people to see people like them creating change.
"I wanted this play to be an invitation to young people stepping into the world, an opportunity to see folks like them leading change, demanding their voices be heard," he said. "They are often shaped by the world around them, but they are also capable of doing the shaping."
Melbourne Theatre Company co-chief executive officer and artistic director Anne-Louise Sarks said she hoped the play was an inspiration for the next generation.
"This is an important work that speaks directly to our younger generations," she said. "This national tour ensures this work is seen by more young Australians in the hope it inspires them."
"SLAP. BANG. KISS." will perform at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Tuesday, August 6 at 7pm.
The production includes coarse language and mature themes and is recommended for audiences aged 14 years and above.
