New exhibitions at WAS
1 min read

A selection of bright and abstract paintings by local artist Ingrid Thomas, and a variety of intriguing animal prints and paintings by Melbourne artist Liz Millsom will be on display at the WAS Gallery as part of two new exhibitions showing until Saturday, November 9.
Titled "Conversations", Ingrid's exhibition features a varied collection of acrylic and mixed medium paintings.
Ingrid said her work had "evolved away from the representational," becoming primarily abstract.
"I like to start my art works with no set plan in mind, creating marks, it becomes an exciting adventure to see where each painting will lead me," she said.
"It becomes a dialogue, a type of conversation between the work and myself. I let my subconscious take the lead, then I respond to the painting. I try to control things then let go."
Liz Millsom's exhibition, "Ecologicool", features several grand portraits of her favourite subject, dingoes.
Working as arts educator, life modelling convenor and artist, Liz's work explores the themes of conservation and ecology within the Australian environment.
"Ecologicool presents a narrative between native and introduced species that cause an imbalance to the ecosystems," Liz said. "The dingo is dominant in my work as it's the top terrestrial predator and is considered critically endangered."
The two exhibitions at the WAS Gallery provide a contrast of media and techniques. "Conversations" is full of colour and abstraction with touches of collage and mixed media. Ingrid's conversation with the process of painting creates thoughtful spontaneity and a great deal of interest.
The majority of pieces in "Ecologicool" are detailed and fine textured black ink prints, some with highlights in colour. Liz has also produced an oil series of small animal portraits, depicting both native and introduced animals.
The two exhibitions will run until Saturday, November 9 at the WAS Gallery, 37 Latrobe St, Warragul.
The gallery is open between Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. For more information, visit wasgallery.com.au
