Explore local gardens this weekend

Immerse yourself in some of West Gippsland's vibrant edible gardens this weekend during Baw Baw Sustainability Network's eighth annual Creative Harvest event.

From 10am to 4pm this Saturday and Sunday, 12 private food-producing gardens across the region will open to the public, showcasing innovative gardening techniques and providing opportunities for both gardening enthusiasts and novices to learn and take inspiration from passionate gardeners.
The gardens also will host more than 20 local artists, creatives and producers, showcasing art installations and demonstrations and celebrating the fusion of gardening and artistic expression. Food and coffee vans will also be available at some gardens.
Described as a "feast for the senses", the Creative Harvest event will include free in-garden talks where visitors can learn from the experts on topics like composting, veggie patch design, wicking beds, medicinal plants, and healthy soil practices.
A variety of engaging workshops will be held at the Yarragon Hall throughout the weekend, including sessions on food preservation, medicinal herbs, sustainable flower arranging and sourdough baking.
Launched in 2018, Creative Harvest is an annual event organised by members of the Baw Baw Sustainability Network (BBSN).
Chair of Creative Harvest Kristy Plumridge said the event celebrated community and creativity and inspired sustainable living.
"Creative Harvest is more than just a garden festival," she said.
"By sharing our gardens and knowledge, we hope to inspire others to connect with nature, grow their own food, and contribute to a greener future."
Creative Harvest is a family-friendly event, with activities for kids of all ages. Dogs on leashes are welcome in some gardens.
Single, family, senior and group weekend passes are available to purchase online. Kids attend free.
Creative Harvest is on this weekend between 10am and 4pm, Saturday and Sunday.
