Elvis tribute at WGAC

Get ready to experience a night with the "King of Rock and Roll" on Friday when legendary Elvis Presley tribute artist Mark Anthony brings his show "Elvis The Legendary Performer" to the West Gippsland Arts Centre.

Mark Anthony has performed as Elvis for 20 years and is recognised by Elvis Presley Enterprises and Graceland USA as one of the top professional tribute artists in the world.
Mark said the "Elvis The Legendary Performer" performance told the story of Elvis' 1963 "Comeback Special" televised concert. "It's a new show that we've been doing this year, it's all about the 1968 comeback special and his following touring years through the 70s," Mark said. "On top of all that, it's my very last show."
Having performed as Elvis for many years, Mark said he always loved the feeling of being in a room full of Elvis fans.
"The beautiful thing about performing as someone like Elvis Presley is that the music is amazing," Mark said.
"But what happens at a show is that you have all the Elvis fans enjoying the music. That's probably one of the best things, you look out while performing and you see the audience singing along with you."
Mark said his talented band help make his tribute act stand out from the rest.
"Over the last 20 years I've hand selected a bunch of musicians to work with me and we've ended up with this group of talented musicians and beautiful people who play the music exactly as it should sound," he said.
"That is a point of difference for me, nothing's been altered or changed, you could close your eyes and it sounds just like the record."
When getting into his character before a show, Mark said he imagines himself walking through a door, coming out the other side as Elvis.
"The minute the music starts and I walk on stage, it's like I walk through this invisible door and become Elvis," he said. "Designed "like a roller coaster", Mark said there a highlight moments sprinkled throughout the performance.
"There's a lot of highlights, we take you on an emotional ride through song," Mark said.
The "Elvis The Legendary Performer" performance features four costumes reminiscent of "The King" himself.
"In this particular show we have four costumes. I like the black leather, it's pretty cool.," Mark said. "There's something about it that only someone like him can pull off."
Mark said the show had something for everyone to enjoy.
"It's for all people, for people who grew up listening to Elvis, people who are just getting into it because of the Baz Luhrmann movie," Mark said. "We get people of all age groups, everyone from seven years old to 77 years old and more. It's great to see."
The "Elvis The Legendary Performer" concert will be at the WGAC at 7:30pm this Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at https://wgac.com.au
