An exhibition of work created by participants in the upcoming Open Studios West Gippsland weekend will officially open at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Tuesday April 1.
Providing a sneak peak into what people can expect from the Open Studios, the exhibition presents a unique opportunity to see a snapshot of creative talent from across West Gippsland.
There will be something to suit everyone's taste, from pottery, painting and printmaking to sculpture and photography.
Open Studios organisers and participating artists Sue Acheson and Helen Timbury encouraged visitors to use the exhibition as a springboard to plan their trip to the Open Studios weekend on April 26 and 27.
"There's at least one piece (in the exhibition) from every Open Studios artist," Sue said.
"What that means is people can come and have a look and say, 'I'd like to go and see this artist, I'd like to go and see that artist' and plan their trip."
"Anybody interested in studios should visit, because they'll see all this work and wonder how people made it and what their studios are like, there's such a variety of work (in the exhibition)," Helen added.
"The people we want to come to see this exhibition are the people that would love to see every studio on the weekend, but maybe they're short on time. If you come here, you'll get a taster and know whether you want to see more of that work. It's a good planning tool and enjoyable activity at the same time!"
Helen and Sue hoped the exhibition would encourage the community to explore the different studios on April 26 and 27.
"We hope they get so inspired that they get online and buy a ticket and plan to come to the weekend," Helen said.
"Come and visit us because we like to see lots of people," Sue said. "There's some really interesting people that come out and start really fantastic conversations."
The April Open Studios weekend will see a mix of familiar faces, some new-comers and artists returning after a hiatus, open their doors and welcome the public into their creative spaces.
The WGAC also will be open throughout the Open Studios weekend and another group of local artists will creating an Alice in Wonderland themed installation. Visitors are invited to participate in the artistic creation and immerse themselves in the creative weekend.
For people interested in visiting studios on the Open Studios weekend, flyers will be available at the exhibition.
The Open Studios West Gippsland exhibition will be officially opened on Tuesday April 1 at 5:30pm and will remain on display until Friday May 2.
