Prepare to be whisked away to a world of witches and wizards when St Paul's Anglican Grammar School bring their senior school production of "Puffs" to the West Gippsland Arts Centre on August 26 and 27.
"Puffs" is a sketch comedy style play, telling the story of seven eventful years at a school of witchcraft from the perspective of students in the Puffs house.
Since March, St Paul's students from years seven to 12 have been rehearsing "The Young Wizard's Version" of the play, written by Matt Cox. The show is directed by St Paul's drama teacher Kylie Sinclair with support from the year 11 theatre studies class.
The play follows the story of an ordinary boy named Wayne Hopkins who discovers he is a wizard and is sent to a magic boarding school.
Placed into the Puffs house, Wayne is surrounded by students who are not necessarily brave, smart or ruthless. Wayne and his two best friends navigate adolescent life on top of the challenges of magic school, from bullies to spells and the escapades of an evil-fighting popular boy named Harry.
The kids just want to be friends, and to not come fourth in the inter-house competition once again. This heart-warming, yet hysterical story of friendship, failure and discovering the true meaning of heroism will resonate with both the young and young at heart. Popular characters like Professor McG, Mr Voldy and a certain potions master make appearances throughout the show.
"Puffs" will be performed at the WGAC on Saturday August 26 at 7pm, and on August 27 at 2pm and at 7pm. The show will run for two hours and 30 minutes, including a 20 minute intermission. Tickets are $30 for full price, $20 for concession and those under 18. Groups of 10 or more are $20 each and families of four are $80 total. Tickets are available from the West Gippsland Arts Centre website.
