Gippsland commuters continue to face delays with buses replacing train services across multiple dates this month.
The closures are needed for "critical works", allowing test trains outside the Metro Tunnel, removal of level crossings and construction of a new station in Pakenham. The state government said this would "create dedicated V/Line tracks" to "improve reliability".
Buses will again replace Gippsland train services for six weeks in May and June as crews "carry out complex signalling work, safety testing and driver training".
The state government also has warned that outbound freeway traffic would be diverted through Pakenham for several days in April for "asphalt strengthening works".
"Motorists travelling between Melbourne and Gippsland will detour through Pakenham as the eastbound lanes of the Princes Fwy close," it said.
The closure detour will start on Friday, April 12 and conclude on Monday, April 15.
The asphalt works are part of the Pakenham Roads Upgrade, aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing bottlenecks, it added.
