Chamber music at WOW
3 min read

Drouin pianist Brian Chapman will be joined by friends Susan Pierotti and Rosanne Hunt for an evening program of chamber music at the Wesley of Warragul on Saturday March 9.
Performing exceptional pieces from Beethoven, Franck and Mendelssohn, Brian, Susan and Rosanne will showcase their talents on piano, violin and cello.
The evening will begin with Beethoven's Sonata in C major for cello and piano, Op.102 No. 1, often considered his quirkiest cello sonata.
The sonata covers a range of contrasting emotions, from its conversational and melancholy opening C major andante, through its turbulent A minor allegro vivace, and the highly energetic finale tinged with humour.
The second performance of the evening, César Franck's sonata in A major for violin and piano, will wow audiences with it's beautiful recurrence of musical themes and the brilliant writing for each instrument.
Following an interval, the evening will conclude with Mendelssohn's Trio No.1 in D minor for piano, violin and cello, Op.49, a moment for the three musicians to shine together.
Composer and influential music critic Robert Schumann once described Mendelssohn's piano trio as "the master trio of our time … that will gladden our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren for many years to come.''
This description still stands over 180 years later as the trio remains one of the most popular compositions not only for pianists but all chamber musicians.
The three musicians performing at the chamber music recital have years of skill and experience.
Pianist Brian Chapman has performed widely across Australia and the world, including the United States, Mexico, Germany and China.
Holding both AMusa and LMusa diplomas, Brian's excellence in music is nothing short of extraordinary.
He has made over 100 ABC studio recordings and broadcasts, and presented many recitals with prominent Australian and international musicians.
Brian teaches piano privately and was honorary accompanist with both the West Gippsland Chorale (2001-2009) and the Latrobe Chorale (2017-2019).
His musical activities have been complemented by an academic career as a physiologist and educational software developer.
Surrounded by music as a child, cellist Rosanne Hunt was destined to pursue a musical career.
Studying the cello with her mother, iconic Melbourne cello teacher Marianne Hunt, Rosanne led the Australian Youth Orchestra cellos on their 1984 European tour as a teenager.
After starting medicine at University, Rosanne decided instead to pursue cello further with Christian Wojtowicz in Hobart and then with the extraordinary philosopher-cellist Anner Bylsma in the Hague.
Rosanne's varied and stimulating career has included playing with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, touring Europe several times with the contemporary group ELISION, and playing baroque cello with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.
Violinist Susan Pierotti began her musical studies as a six year old under the guidance of Stella and Mary Nemet. Her career has encompassed performances in symphony orchestras, operas, ballets, theatre and film, live broadcasts, and has seen her undertake teaching, reviewing and adjudicating roles.
Susan has been closely involved in commissioning, performing and recording contemporary music for over two decades.
She worked with the ELISION Ensemble since its inception in 1986, touring with them across the globe, and currently plays with Arcko Ensemble.
