Couple sleep through brazen burglary

Offenders also stole the couple’s 2016 Ford Ranger utility, valued at about $45,000.

Baw Baw CIU detectives said three youths were seen walking from the utility when they abandoned it in Victoria St, Drouin shortly after 7am on Sunday.

Detectives believe the aggravated burglary is related to three thefts from cars in Bennett St, Drouin on the same night.

Detectives said offenders entered the Albert St home via a side door.  The occupants were asleep upstairs at the time.

Offenders stole a Prada handbag valued at $3000 from the kitchen bench that also contained the victim’s engagement ring and a diamond band that were valued at $40,000.

Laptop computers and sunglasses also were stolen.

Detectives said offenders stole a set of keys to the couple’s Ford Ranger and left the property in the vehicle.

A work trailer hooked up to the utility was later found dumped in Forest Rd, Labertouche.

Detectives said the utility was found in Victoria St, Drouin at 7.10am when three youths, all wearing black were seen walking away from the vehicle.
