Warragul North Primary School student Cooper Alger has returned from the Pacific School Games in Adelaide as a gold medallist.

Selected as vice captain in the School Sports Victoria under 12 basketball team, Cooper was the only player from country Victoria selected in the 10 player squad.

The SSV team differs from other state teams, as it is the only team that combines both metropolitan and country players.

During five days of competition in Adelaide last month, the Victorian team went through the preliminary round undefeated.

"The team trained on Saturday at Wayville stadium, which is home to South Australia basketball," Cooper said.

"Our first game was on Sunday against the South Australian team who had a huge home crowd.

"We won comfortably by 25 points.

"I then went to the opening ceremony, which was held at the Adelaide Showgrounds.

"There were more than 10,000 spectators and more than 2000 athletes.

"It was an amazing experience."
