Marist Sion College Warragul's senior team put in a valiant effort in its school football Shield campaign.
Taking out the Gippsland region level, the school progressed to compete for the Country Shield in Melbourne where it went down to powerhouse St Patrick's College Ballarat.
Winners of the Country Cup progress to the premier Shield competition, a competition that St Patrick's College have won for five consecutive years.
The Shield competition is contested by leading country secondary schools, providing both male and female students the chance to test their football skills.
Liam Anderson was presented with the Robert Murphy medal as player of the Gippsland carnival. Anderson also received a letter from Murphy, captain of the Western Bulldogs and also a former Marist Sion student.
Students have also tasted success in a number of other sports including netball and cricket.
Although making a slow start to not qualify for the division they had hoped for, Marist Sion's netball team won their division at the Marist netball carnival in Lismore. New South Wales.
Grace Cunningham shot the winning goal in the dying minutes of the grand final, while Alysha Marcucci won All Australian selection.
Catholic College Sale will host next year's carnival and Marist Sion will hope for another strong showing.
Meanwhile, Marist Sion student Wilson McGilivray has been selected in a Cricket Australia rookie pathway program, which identifies 52 of the best young talent prospects in Australia.
