Footy upsets

Difficult to label too many early round results as upsets but there were certainly some interesting outcomes in Ellinbank and district football league games at the weekend.

Raising some eyebrows in the EDFL eastern division on Saturday were Nyora making it two from two finishing a little better than Neerim Neerim South to claim the points 7-6 to 5-12, and the failure of Poowong's heavy recruiting to deliver the goods again.

It is still winless, Warragul Industrials storming away after an even first term to win impressively 16-19 to 6-11.

Longwarry got its premiership points tally underway at Nilma-Darnum's expense.

It was mostly one-way traffic as the Crows prevailed 21-12 to 9-6.

At Buln Buln the home side posted its second 20-goal plus score in as many weeks, dominating the second half after scores were level midway.

Ellinbank managed just one goal after half time to the Lyrebirds' 15 to give a final scoreline of 22-11 to 8-9.

Buln, Dusties and Nyora are the only two-game winners.

If there was a surprise in the western division it was Lang Lang's downing of Cora Lynn.
